The following is a translation of an audio clip from Shaykh Uthaymeen's explanation of Hadeeth Jibril. For a biography of Shaykh Uthaymeen, please click here.
We recommend that you listen to the arabic audio as well.
And the saying that “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah” along with the saying that you bare witness that “There is none worthy of worship except Allah”; these two gather together the two conditions of worship, and they are:
• Sincerity in worship of Allah
• And worship in accordance to the teachings of the Messenger of Allah, Sallalahu alaihi wasallam
Because whosoever said, “There is none worthy of worship except Allah”, devoted his worship to Allah Alone. And whosoever bared witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, followed the Messenger of Allah, and didn’t follow anyone other than him.
And this is why both of these are considered to be the first pillar from the Pillars of Islam. Because they both refer back to one thing, and that is: ‘The correctness of acts of worship’; because the acts of worships aren’t correct except with these two testimonies: The testimony that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, with which sincerity is achieved and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, with which the following of the Messenger is achieved.
